Snoqualmie swears in Daniel Murphy and elects Joe Johnson mayor pro tem

Daniel Murphy was sworn in to Snoqualmie City Council Position 1 at the council’s Jan. 12 regular meeting, taking the oath of office administered on the dais and pledging to “faithfully and impartially perform the duties” of the office.

Mayor Jim Mayhew administered the oath before the council and public. Mayhew recognized former council members who previously held Position 1 and welcomed Murphy to the council, saying Murphy “has big shoes to fill.”

Council member Joe Johnson was nominated by Council member Holloway to serve as mayor pro tem. Johnson outlined the role, saying the mayor pro tem’s primary responsibilities are to “appoint council members to committee and liaisons, with council approval, and to then temporarily fill in for the mayor if the mayor is absent from a council meeting,” and to “meet regularly with the mayor and the administration.” He noted experience chairing local groups and planning committees and asked for the council’s support. The council voted by voice and elected Johnson mayor pro tem.

Following the election, Johnson presented proposed committee assignments and liaison appointments. The council moved and unanimously approved the proposed appointments.

The meeting closed with brief remarks from Murphy thanking colleagues and staff for the transition assistance and welcoming the opportunity to serve.

The council’s next regular meeting agenda will include the mayor pro tem’s finalized liaison assignments and other committee follow-ups.
