The Sumner County Committee on Committees met at 5:00 a.m. Jan. 12 and approved grouped appointments to multiple county boards, including Ag Extension, the health board, the Regional Planning Commission, the Beer Board, the Board of Construction Appeals and the Solid Waste Board.
The meeting opened with an invocation and routine procedural business. The committee accepted a motion to group and approve the Ag Extension nominees after a brief discussion about voting-district placement; the chair reported that staff in Clint Parker’s office noted Nicole Gio and James Rainwater are currently in the same voting district and should be placed in separate districts. The grouped Ag Extension motion passed by voice vote.
Before the health board approvals, a member recounted a review of the Tennessee Code Annotated and said the older practice of professional groups forwarding nominees had been discontinued; staff member Hal completed outreach and forwarded candidate resumes. During public comment, Mike McLeod told the committee he knew one nominee personally and urged support, saying, “He’s a great guy,” in reference to Dr. Lutie. The committee then moved to group and approve the health board nominees; the motion passed by voice vote.
Other appointments approved included Mr. Elson’s continued service on the Regional Planning Commission, Mr. Harrison’s appointment to the Beer Board, and the selection of Randy to take the full-time seat on the Board of Construction Appeals left vacant by Mike Williams. The committee also approved the mayoral appointee, Chris Taylor, to the Solid Waste Board. All listed appointments were moved, seconded and approved by voice vote.
The chair said legal counsel advised there were no appointments scheduled for February, and members discussed taking the February meeting off because several would be unavailable. The committee made a motion to adjourn, which passed by voice vote.
Actions were routine approvals; the committee did not record individual roll-call tallies in the transcript and handled votes by voice. The meeting concluded with members updating calendars and brief logistical notes.
