Dr. Keith Moffitt told the podcast Macon is in a "making moment," a phase he said reflects years of planning and new private and public investments. He listed several large projects he said are changing the corridor: a Mercer Medical project described on the show as a roughly $300,000,000 investment; a nearly $300,000,000 arena under development; a courthouse renovation of more than $20,000,000; and a convention‑center/hotel effort linked to a Marriott.
Moffitt placed those projects alongside other downtown infill and redevelopment — a parking deck and mixed‑use Gateway Plaza, Otis Redding amphitheater activities, and a hotel/convention emphasis — and argued the combined effect could drive billions in local investment. "If the dominoes fall the way they fall, that's almost $3,000,000,000 of investment in projects," he said, calling the stretch of work catalytic for housing, retail and workforce opportunities.
He acknowledged tradeoffs such as increased traffic and parking complaints, but said the volume of private investment and resulting jobs and amenities justify pursuing coordinated infrastructure, workforce and neighbourhood supports. Moffitt urged officials to think about the next 50 years when approving projects: "As we continue to make decisions... the team that's sitting around this table gonna look back and say, what the hell were they thinking?" he said, urging long‑term thinking in approvals and design.
Specific financing details, schedules and binding agreements for the projects were not provided in the interview; the manager offered high‑level investment figures and priorities rather than contract or budget documents.
