Greenback and Loudon High student representatives updated the Loudon County School Board on recent testing (ACT, ASVAB), extracurricular wins, an aviation licensing effort, and a college signing for Hannah Miller to Kansas State.
Perseus Hutchins, the Greenback School representative, and Julia Hatcher, the Loudoun High School student representative, told the Loudon County School Board about recent student accomplishments and upcoming events.
Hutchins said Greenback seniors took the ACT in September and that all high school juniors will take the ASVAB this month. She described a fall festival tied to an elementary "book blitz" (this years theme: The Wizard of Oz), a WBIR Channel 10 tailgate fundraiser in which Greenback beat Oakdale in a food bank challenge, and a Veterans Day program that included a presentation by the Smoky Mountain Service Dog Organization. Hutchins also reported winter sports (boys and girls basketball, wrestling), band participation in competitions and the local Greenback parade, and a completed yearbook. "I'm genuinely seeing a lot of enthusiasm for what's to come next," she said.
Hutchins announced a college signing: Hannah Miller, a long-time Greenback student, has signed to row at Kansas State University and is expected to enroll in 2026. She also said two students, Luke Morris and Heidi Lundquist, are taking exams this week to earn aviation licenses as part of the districts aviation program.
Julia Hatcher reviewed Loudoun High events: Veterans Day on Nov. 11; the conclusion of football and girls soccer seasons; a Fields of Faith gathering held indoors because of weather; and competitive wins for engineering and CTE teams (the engineering students placed first in a bridge-building contest at UTK; the CTE team won overall team building against 29 teams). She noted the Tennessee Promise meeting held Nov. 20 and a scheduled top-25 event later this month, with a makeup date if needed. Hatcher also invited board members to a basketball game and previewed spring sports and upcoming arts events.
The student reports covered classroom, extracurricular and career-technical education milestones and provided the board with updates on testing schedules, college access programming and student recognitions. The board thanked both student representatives before moving on to business.
