The Rules Committee approved an amendment to city code (item 20250867) to require the budget office to request input from the Duval County School Board during preparation of the Capital Improvement Program.

Council Vice President Howland, sponsor of the bill, said the change responds to a November 6 joint meeting with the Duval County School Board where the board requested more input on sidewalks, streets and lighting near schools. Howland told the committee he had confirmed support from budget office staff and administration representatives for adding the school board to the list of entities consulted for the CIP.

Multiple council members asked to be added as cosponsors and the committee proceeded to a recorded ballot. The clerk recorded 7 yeas, 0 nays; the committee approved bill 20250867. No substantive changes to the measure were recorded during the committee discussion.
