The Cornwall-Lebanon School District Board of School Directors opened its Jan. 12 meeting at South Lebanon Elementary with a moment of silence for Demarius Galarzia, a twelfth-grade student who died of a medical event, then heard student recognitions and gratitude presentations from across the district.
Presiding officer Mister Schlegel asked attendees to "please join in a moment of silence for Demarius and his family," and thanked families and students for attending. Principal Groff introduced Cedar Crest High School’s December and January students of the month — Lila Stutzman, Tyler Tuscano, Tice Frank and Sarah Updike — and summarized each student’s academic, extracurricular and community activities.
Ryan Brophy, speaking for Cedar Crest’s student council, outlined upcoming events including the King of Hearts dance and the council’s new AJA (All Just Along) committee, and noted the high school donated $250 to Minathon and the Four Diamonds Foundation on the board’s behalf. Students from Cornwall, Ebenezer, South Lebanon, Union Canal and the middle school presented books, notes and a "school board appreciation and survival kit" in recognition of board service.
Superintendent Doctor Dimencic thanked students and staff and noted several district items — a winter-band concert schedule, the loan of a wooden Liberty Bell to school buildings through Feb. 6 as part of Lebanon County’s 250th anniversary events, and an early first-semester graduation list to be approved for Jan. 15.
The meeting’s public and ceremonial items focused on student achievement and community appreciation; action items followed after recognitions.
