Board appoints absentee ballot boards, canvass members and sets County Ditch 18 public hearing

County Auditor Connie asked the board on Jan. 6 to adopt routine election resolutions required by Minnesota statute to establish absentee/mail ballot and UOCAVA ballot boards for elections in 2026 and 2027. The board approved the resolution and discussed staffing contingencies given new requirements such as family‑leave impacts on election judges.
The board also approved appointing two commissioners to the county canvassing board to process returns for a special county‑commissioner District 5 election and the 2026 primary and general elections; commissioners volunteered to serve under the statutory rotation.
Auditor staff also set a public hearing for Jan. 30, 2026 at 9:00 a.m. to let the drainage authority consider easement acquisition and compensation for County Ditch 18 pursuant to Minnesota statutes. Notices will be issued after the board’s vote.
During open forum, members of the public raised election‑process concerns and asked that statutes and precinct procedures be reviewed; the board recorded those public comments for the minutes.
