Senate adopts memorial resolution honoring Dorothy Lee “Dot” Hatcher

The Alabama Senate adopted a joint resolution honoring Dorothy Lee “Dot” Hatcher, who the resolution records as having died on Dec. 23, 2025, at age 87. The resolution, read at length on the chamber floor, praised Hatcher’s decades-long work as a tailor and seamstress and noted her service in the Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church’s music programs.

Senator Gudger introduced the resolution and asked that it be read at length. The resolution’s text records that Hatcher was born Nov. 4, 1942, was the mother of Curt Hatcher and of Senator Kirk Hatcher’s family, and listed surviving family, grandchildren and community roles. After the reading, Senator Gudger asked that all senators be added to the measure and requested immediate consideration. Hearing no objection, the Senate adopted the resolution by voice vote.

During a personal-privilege moment on the floor, Senator Gudger addressed Curt Hatcher in the gallery and offered the chamber’s support, saying, "We love you, sir, and we will be there to help in any way we possibly can." The remarks emphasized the chamber’s condolence and support for the family.

The resolution was offered, read, and adopted during the joint session; the Senate then proceeded with other routine business and introductions. No roll-call vote was recorded in the transcript; adoption was made by voice vote.
