The Wayne County Commission opened its first meeting of the year with prayer and brief remarks before moving quickly to organizational business and recognitions. Commissioners elected the vice chair and the vice chair pro tempore and had those officers sworn in during the meeting. The commission then approved a resolution recognizing the Northville High School boys cross‑country team for winning the Michigan High School Athletic Association Lower Peninsula Division 1 state championship for the fourth consecutive year.
Commissioner Marecki presented the resolution, praising the team’s sustained success and naming senior and junior team members and coaches. A team representative provided race details — including three runners finishing in the top 10 statewide — and highlighted the squad’s undefeated division record and conference and regional championships during the season. The resolution was moved and carried without recorded opposition.
In procedural business the commission also approved the meeting journal and received a short report from the chair looking ahead to county work in 2026. The meeting then advanced into consideration of multiple contracts and departmental items on the agenda.
The commission adjourned after routine memorials and member remarks.
