At the Dec. 10 meeting the Smithfield City Council recognized outgoing planning commission members and approved several appointments to local advisory bodies.
The council presented commemorative clocks to planning commission members Bob Holbrook and Jamie Anderson for years of service. The council then approved three appointments effective Jan. 1, 2026: Michael Beckstead (alternate to the Planning Commission), Robert Felshaw (Planning Commission member) and Hailey Lister (Tree Committee). Council also approved a second tree-committee appointment (Nick, last name unclear in the transcript). Each applicant spoke briefly about their background and interest in serving; Beckstead noted 20 years residency and a desire to give back; Lister described her ecological and conservation background and Audubon leadership experience.
Motions to approve the appointments were made and seconded on the record, and each motion carried with unanimous council votes.
The appointments will place new members on the planning and tree committees starting in January, and staff said alternates will attend meetings until vacancies open for permanent placement.
