Committee refers updated compounding FAQs to full board after minor edits

The Enforcement & Compounding Committee reviewed a draft set of compounding FAQs intended to help licensees interpret the compounding regulations that took effect Oct. 1, 2025, and voted Jan. 7 to send the FAQs to the full board for approval.
Staff said the FAQ document covers four sections — general compounding, nonsterile compounding, sterile compounding and hazardous drug compounding — and stressed that the FAQs are informational and do not substitute for legal advice. The chair acknowledged that the FAQs complement the recently updated regulations and are intended as a dynamic resource staff will update periodically.
Licensee member Nicole Thiebaud flagged a readability issue: the abbreviations CNSP (compounded nonsterile products) and CSP (compounded sterile products) appear in question 10 without a prior definition in that question. "People might just be scanning for the questions they're looking for," she said, and asked that the terms be spelled out in that question to improve clarity. Committee members agreed to that edit.
Renee Barker moved to recommend approval of the proposed FAQs, the committee seconded and the roll-call vote was unanimous. The referral will allow the full board to review and formally adopt the document as an educational resource for licensees.
