The Washington County School Board took several procedural and administrative actions during its meeting, electing board officers and approving routine business items.
Adam Wilson was nominated and accepted the position of board chair for 2026, and Doctor Sandy Frederick was elected vice chair. The board approved Kelly Fields as board clerk and Melissa Calvio as deputy clerk. The board also authorized the superintendent to approve bills, employ necessary staff and accept resignations subject to later board review, and to designate a representative to attend meetings in the superintendent’s absence.
The board approved committee assignments for 2026 and adopted first readings of multiple policy revisions aligned with VSBA updates. By motion, the board approved two weather-related makeup days (Jan. 19 and Feb. 16) and adopted the 2026 school board meeting schedule (Option 1).
On budget procedure, the board opened and later closed the public hearing on the 2026–27 operational budget; no members of the public signed up to speak during the hearing segment. The consent agenda (items 13.01–13.06) was approved. The board also adopted the VSBA code of conduct for school board members.
The meeting closed its public business by moving into a closed session to discuss personnel matters under Code of Virginia §2.2-3711(A).
