The Milwaukee Common Council's Judiciary & Legislation Committee confirmed several appointments to city advisory boards and commissions during its Jan. 12 meeting. Chair Deandre Jackson asked each nominee to introduce themselves before members moved confirmations that passed without objection.
Alex Brezan introduced himself for appointment to the Administrative Review Board of Appeals, citing years as a teacher and school administrator and a desire to "give back when possible," and Alderman Pratt moved confirmation with no objections. Alexander Costell, a lifelong Milwaukee resident who said he has spent eight years in indigent criminal defense and served on a county human rights commission, was similarly supported by the commission chair and confirmed. Denise Monjeres Renteria described nonprofit and higher-education experience (Alverno College, University of Wisconsin–Milwaukee) and was confirmed to the Equal Rights Commission.
The committee also moved to reappoint Clarence Nicholson to the Ethics Board and Catherine Doyle to the Board of Review; both reappointments were recorded as confirmed with no objections. Chair Jackson closed the items after members praised the candidates' experience.
The committee's confirmations were procedural votes that advance the nominees to full standing or complete their reappointment, as appropriate; no formal objections or roll-call tallies were recorded in the committee minutes. The confirmed appointments will be reflected in the city's official records and the relevant boards will schedule orientation and assignment as needed.
