The Lee County Public Safety Committee heard routine operational and incident reports from county law-enforcement and related staff. Chair introduced Mister Wayland, identified in the meeting as the sheriff, who described the "Shop with the Sheriff" program held on Dec. 13. The sheriff thanked McDonald's and Culver's for providing food and Walmart for hosting the shopping event, and said "I believe about 40 some kids went through the sheriff's office."
The Chair briefed the committee on an attempted aggravated robbery at the Shell station on Amboy that occurred about a week earlier. The Chair said the sheriff's department "was down and assisted the chief down there," that "fortunately, nobody got hurt," "no money was lost," and that the investigation "continues."
Mister Boonstra reported an additional serious charge arising from events in Dixon, saying "we also had an attempt murder" and that a charge was filed in that matter. Boonstra also confirmed the county's Tyler kickoff meeting is scheduled next week (speakers referenced both the 20th and Jan. 21 in discussion) and supplied collections figures for the sheriff's office: "for the month of December, total amount received was $12,971.58," and "the total, for the year was $133,249.38."
The committee had no votes on policy or budget items in this session. The meeting concluded with a motion to adjourn that passed by voice vote.
