The commission received a late-filed remediation report from the City of Holly Springs in an ongoing investigation but did not have time to review it; commissioners asked the city's representatives to appear at the next meeting and reaffirmed oversight expectations.
Stephanie Taylor, who presented the docket update, said representatives planned to attend but were unable to appear and that the remediation report arrived minutes before the meeting. Taylor said the report will be filed in the docket for public review and the commission will use it to inform next steps. Commissioners expressed disappointment at the delay, reiterated the need to resolve service problems and said the city will be required to appear next month.
On a separate administrative matter, Commissioner Stamps requested unanimous consent to amend the agenda to include a resolution supporting removal of the requirement that sodium fluoride be added to public water systems in Mississippi. Commissioners granted permission to add the draft resolution to the agenda and later approved conceptually moving forward, directing staff to work on final language. Commissioner Stamps and others said the measure reflects a policy preference that fluoridation decisions be left to individual communities, parents and clinicians.
What’s next: Staff will review Holly Springs’ remediation report and ask city representatives to appear at the next meeting; staff will draft resolution language concerning sodium-fluoride requirements for commissioner review.
