At its Jan. 13 meeting the Des Moines County Board of Supervisors handled a slate of procedural and administrative items, approving final plats, appointments, committee assignments and personnel actions.
Final plats: The board adopted resolutions approving the final plat for the Dean Taker subdivision and the Pam's Land subdivision after county departments (auditor, health, secondary roads and land use) reviewed and recommended approval.
Appointment: The board appointed Jim Carey to the Southeast Iowa Regional Planning Commission (SEIRPC) board of directors for a one-year term, set to expire Jan. 1, 2027.
Budget hearing: The supervisors adopted a resolution fixing the time and place for a public hearing on the FY '26 budget amendment for Tuesday, Jan. 27, 2026, at 9 a.m. in the Des Moines County Courthouse and directed the budget director to publish the legally required notice and estimated summary.
Committee assignments and personnel: The board approved committee and liaison appointments for 2026 across a range of regional boards and local committees, and approved several personnel actions including unpaid leave for two local health employees, a correctional officer step increase effective Jan. 29, 2026, and two county attorney office step increases with effective dates and pay amounts noted in the personnel list.
Routine business: The board acknowledged coroner and clerk fee reports filed with the auditor and approved minutes from its Jan. 6, 2026 regular meeting.
No additional substantive policy actions were taken beyond the previously described ordinance reading and related public comment; many of the recorded votes on procedural items were taken by voice and roll call during the meeting.
