Glendale swears in new council members, confirms appointments and promotes police sergeant

The Village of Glendale swore in new and returning council members and confirmed several mayoral appointments during its January organizational session.
Newly elected members John Pichel and Jeff Witty, and returning council members Amy Baldrich and Joan Verchaux, took the oath of office administered by the mayor. Council then moved into organizational business to confirm appointments and staffing decisions.
Ordinance 2026-01 was adopted confirming the mayor's one-year appointment of Kathleen Farrell Ryan, Esquire, as village solicitor. Council also approved Ordinance 2026-02 to authorize appointment of the mayor's court magistrate (Laura Abrams) and prosecutor (Sandy Schilling) for the coming year.
On public safety staffing, the council approved Ordinance 2026-04 confirming Jeffrey Davidson as police sergeant after the Police Chief outlined Davidson's qualifications — law enforcement experience since 2012, prior service at Loveland PD, Capitol Police and Grove City, training instructor credentials, and the department's 2024 officer of the year award — and the mayor administered the sergeant's oath.
The chief presented department awards: Officer Kristen Bishop was named 2025 Officer of the Year; Service Superintendent Ross Wilmeth and Officer David Gillen received lifesaving awards for assisting a vehicle stuck on railroad tracks on Jan. 5, 2025.
Council then proceeded to confirm multiple committee and commission appointments by recorded vote, including the election of Will Kreidler as mayor pro tem and appointments to the Planning and Historic Preservation Commission, Urban Forestry Board, Public Records Commission and the volunteer firefighter relief fund board.
