Board of Review chair reports fewer appeals in 2025, asks for volunteers

Justin Beso, chairman of the Board of Review, provided a short report to the Marquette City Commission on Jan. 12 noting two vacancies on the board and a scheduled set of five meetings for 2026, with the last meeting slated for Dec. 15, 2026. Beso said the board hears property tax appeals and that 47 petitions were filed in 2025, compared with 122 in 2024; unresolved appeals can be taken to the Michigan Tax Tribunal.
Beso thanked staff and encouraged interested, qualified residents to apply to fill vacancies. He described the board’s role in evaluating taxable value by property class and noted the workload can be heavy depending on the year.
