Adams County Solid Waste Committee hears site, shop, tonnage and financial reports

At the Jan. 13 meeting staff updated the committee on a butterfly-garden seeding, a one-year land-lease addendum, construction of a lysimeter trailer, multiple equipment repairs and callbacks on oil-sample flags; December tonnage and pre-audit finances were also presented.
Committee staff used the Jan. 13 meeting to present routine site, shop and financial reports, including updates on habitat work, field sampling equipment, vehicle maintenance and tonnage and pre-audit financials.
Reuben reported that Adams County Land and Water and partners seeded a native mix at the butterfly garden on Dec. 8 to encourage desired native plants and limit invasive species; staff plan no additional work on the planting until spring. Reuben also said the county executed a one-year addendum to extend an existing land lease through the beginning of the year.
Reuben described converting a small trailer into a lysimeter trailer and a pump system for extracting water and gas-well samples; staff assembled most components from on-site materials and noted employee contributions to the work.
Nate reviewed shop maintenance and repair work. He reported hydraulic hoses on a Bomag required repair and referenced a quote included in the packet from Miller Brad. Nate said two leaking fuel lines will be repaired in-house. He described oil sampling that flagged coolant contamination in one engine and said Volvo Penta follow-up was pending.
On fuel contracting, Nate said Dale Petroleum permitted the county to finish the contract commitment through February for the remaining 8,478 gallons without additional penalty.
For tonnage, Reuben said landfill tonnage was down 1,900 in December with a year-end total of 5,276; Atta County recorded 3,188 for December and Strongs Prairie brought in more customer tonnage year over year. On recycling, Reuben said Max Solution LLC chipped the brush pile during the week of Dec. 22; staff plan to screen material for compost and produce a cleaner brush pile for customers.
Kinsey presented the December 2025 pre-audit financial report and said consolidated pre-audit solid waste operations were roughly $834,000 favorable, with landfill operations about $1,600,000 favorable and recycling about $272,000 favorable.
The committee set its next meeting for Feb. 10, 2026, at 4:00 p.m. and adjourned.
