At the Jan. 12 meeting, Assistant Superintendent for Educational Services Dr. Polson presented a draft district calendar for the next school year and an information item seeking iPads and software to support students who require assistive technology.
Dr. Polson said the draft calendar was developed collaboratively with staff and two board members and will be posted to the district website for public preview and comment until the next board meeting, where a hearing will be held and the calendar brought forward for action. "The draft will be available on our district website following this board meeting, and it will be posted for public preview and comment until our next board meeting where we will hold a hearing," Dr. Polson said.
On assistive technology, Dr. Polson said the request "includes hardware as well as software for iPads, with the request amount of a $110,000, which is fully funded through our special education grant." The item was listed as informational and will be presented as an action item at the next board meeting.
Administrators also summarized how the district communicates emergency‑day or closure decisions (information pushed by phone, text or email no later than 5:45 a.m., and sometimes the night before) and listed upcoming dates including early release Jan. 19 (MLK observance), the next board meeting Jan. 26 and kindergarten registration opening later in February.
What’s next: the calendar and the iPad funding request are slated for action following the public comment period and the required hearing at the next board meeting.
