Morganton honors long-serving employees, presents retiree resolutions and service pins

Sharon Jablowski, director of culture and creative development, received a 35-year service pin and thanked council members for the recognition. The council read and adopted separate resolutions honoring public-safety retirees Captain Josiah Brown (retired 01/01/2026 after 25 years), Kyle Go forth (retired 01/01/2026 after 13 years and 4 months), James Hildebrand (retired 01/01/2026 after 25 years and 5 months) and Shane Roper (retired 01/01/2026 after 25 years and 5 months).
During the Josiah Brown presentation, council approved a motion to declare a Glock Model 45 9mm (serial CDAX693) and a fire-services helmet (serial 21148855) as surplus, sell them for $1 and present them to retired Captain Brown. Colleagues recounted memories from Brown’s career; one presenter described him as a field training officer who "handled the calls, how he spoke to people and cared for people." Brown accepted the presentation and thanked the council.
Resolutions for Kyle Go forth, James Hildebrand and Shane Roper were read and adopted by voice vote; James Hildebrand spoke briefly to express appreciation for his time at the Grama Performing Arts Center.
The council completed the recognitions and moved on to other agenda items without additional policy action related to the retirements.
