Harrison swears in four council members, names Tanner Dole vice mayor and finalizes 2026 committees

The Harrison City Council on Tuesday swore in four council members, unanimously appointed Tanner Dole as vice mayor for 2026 and approved the city’s boards, commissions and committee assignments for the year.

The meeting opened with the Pledge of Allegiance and an invocation from Pastor Mark Garrett of Legacy Christian Church. The mayor then administered the oath of office to Michael Tanner Dole, William Nyer and Patty Van Cleave, each reciting the standard oath to support the U.S. and Ohio constitutions and to observe the charter and ordinances of the municipality of Harrison.

“Welcome all and welcome new members,” the mayor said after the swearing-in, shortly before the clerk took roll call and confirmed a full council was present.

A council member moved to nominate Tanner Dole as vice mayor and a second was given; a roll-call vote approved Dole. The mayor explained the vice mayor’s role: to preside in the mayor’s absence and to represent the mayor when required.

Council next voted to approve the roster of 2026 boards and commissions and to adopt committee assignments for the year. During later remarks Dole said he will chair the tech and media committee and serve on economic development, street/stormwater/utilities, finance and planning commission as a liaison.

The votes on organization items were conducted by roll call and recorded as affirmative by the sitting members. New council members were offered the option to abstain on approving past minutes and committee rosters but voted in favor.

The council adjourned at the end of the regular business session after approving the evening’s agenda and reports.

The meeting is expected to resume with standard monthly business at the council’s next scheduled session.
