Board recognizes teachers and students across Houston County schools

Principals from five schools introduced teachers of the year and students honored for academics, athletics and extracurricular achievements, including a county-first eSports championship and FFA state winners advancing to nationals.
During the Jan. 7 meeting the Houston County Board of Education heard presentations from principals at Mossy Creek Middle, Lake Joy Primary, Russell Elementary, Warner Robins High and Warner Robins Middle. Each principal introduced teachers of the year and several students who were recognized for academic, athletic and extracurricular achievements.
Mossy Creek Middle School honored computer science teacher Jake Harvey and students Reese Brett and Wesley Stevens for classroom engagement and multi-sport accomplishments. Lake Joy Primary introduced second-graders Cameron Hodges and Ellie Kim and kindergarten teacher Miss Megan Blythe, the school’s teacher of the year. Russell Elementary highlighted students Tyler Johnson and Madeline Posada and teacher Janet Myles. Warner Robins High presented seniors Anala Savage and Micah Daniel and Teacher of the Year Scott Daniel. Warner Robins Middle showcased gifted students AJ Kalingres and Aiden Jones and teacher Millie Manning; the middle school noted its team won the county’s first eSports championship across a multi-state league.
Principals emphasized classroom engagement, STEM participation, dual enrollment and extracurricular leadership. The recognitions were offered as part of the meeting’s opening presentations and preceded the board’s business agenda.
