MCDEVCO reported to the committee that it had lent just shy of $1,000,000 as it closed out 2025 and expects to continue lending and education programs through 2026.
The representative said the organization's average loan is roughly $25,000 and that about 60% of the active portfolio serves service-based businesses (hospitality, auto, mental health practices). MCDEVCO also manages the Wausau business incubator, which the speaker said is in the mid-80s for occupancy, and a commercial kitchen used by food entrepreneurs.
MCDEVCO emphasized the educational component of its work, including a 16-week "gear" certificate program that takes about 15 students per cohort. The organization said it will continue convening municipalities and adapting course offerings to current market needs.
The MCDEVCO representative noted they will pause in-person updates until May due to staff leave but will continue to submit reports to the committee.
