Students and staff recognized; board accepts $22,468.94 in gifts

At the Jan. 13 meeting the board heard a student report from Irondale representative Alyanna, who highlighted recent extracurricular successes: the bowling team qualified for the state tournament, individual student qualifiers in boys'single state events, performing arts concerts and DECA's week of giving (with one classroom raising as much as $2,000 in a day). Alyanna also reported about food collections, noting approximately 1,000 pounds of food collected districtwide and 473 pounds contributed to the school pantry.
In the superintendent's report, the board learned that Irondale principal Rob Reets was named the 2026 Minnesota High School Principal of the Year by the Minnesota Association of Secondary School Principals (MASSP). The superintendent also announced that Irondale was placed on the College Board silver honor roll and Mounds View High School on the gold honor roll for work increasing access to Advanced Placement courses and supporting students in AP pathways.
The board received a gifts report from board member Jim Demay: 21 gifts for schools and programs were reported for the period totaling $22,468.94, with year-to-date gifts of $359,374.76. The board accepted the gifts and extended thanks to donors.
Board members praised students, staff and volunteers for their efforts and encouraged community participation in upcoming events.
