Mounds View School Board swears in three new members, approves officer slate

Shauna Bock, Tasha Just and Mark Sacaj were sworn in as members of the Mounds View Public School District school board during the board's Jan. 13 meeting. The new members participated in the oath of office to "support the Constitution of the United States" and to discharge the duties of Independent School District 621.
During the same organizational portion of the meeting, a board member nominated a slate of officers: Heidi Danielson for chair, Shauna Bock for vice chair, Jim Demay for treasurer and Alyssa Darnelson for clerk. The nomination was seconded and approved by voice vote.
The board also reiterated annual governance practices by affirming board policies BG-400 (board ethics), BG-401 (board member code of conduct) and BG-107 (rules governing the transaction of business), and by confirming Robert's Rules of Order, Newly Revised as the board's parliamentary procedure guide for the year.
Board members thanked the district community for support and expressed readiness to begin work for their four-year terms. The board announced it will continue the process to fill a separate vacant seat: interviews are scheduled Jan. 15 (beginning at 5:30 p.m.) and Jan. 20, with an appointment expected at the February meeting; 16 people applied for that vacancy.
Votes at a glance: the agenda, the officer slate and the consent agenda were each adopted by voice vote after motions and seconds; individual roll-call tallies were not recorded in the meeting transcript.
The meeting was adjourned following brief closing remarks and expressions of gratitude from new and returning members.
