The Shawnee County Board approved several public‑works items at its Jan. 12 meeting, advancing bridge projects and awarding maintenance material contracts.

Public works director Curt Nehauser described a planned replacement on NE Calhoun Bluff Road over a tributary to the Kansas River. Staff said changing drainage makes an 8×8 culvert appropriate to replace the existing bridge; construction is expected to start in April and finish in August, with the road closed to through traffic and access preserved for local property owners. Commissioners authorized staff to establish a project budget and solicit construction bids.

The board approved contract C2026003 to Cook Flat Strobel Engineers PA for design and construction engineering of a bridge replacement on NW 78th Street over Half Day Creek; staff said that firm completed a nearby successful project.

Public works also requested and received approval of vendor awards for recurring road‑maintenance materials: traffic line paint was awarded to Diamond Vogel Inc. (6,000–9,000 gallons, white and/or yellow); up to 44,000 pounds of glass beads for retroreflectivity was awarded to Potters Industries; and culvert supplies were awarded to two vendors (Contact Engineering Solutions LLC and Metal Culverts Inc.) with staff combining vendor pricing to select the lowest total cost per order.

Commissioners discussed storage, delivery windows (typically 2–4 weeks), and operational details such as ordering end sections from the same vendor as the pipe to ensure fit. All public‑works motions passed unanimously.
