Commission approves juvenile detention center bids, food‑service plan and generator contract

“We would like to replace half of our sink fluid security fixtures just because we're having an increasingly large number of issues with them,” Jones said, explaining two units have had parts removed and cannot even dispense water.
Jones also presented a food‑service procurement plan adapted from a state template to meet federal guidelines; she said the DESE had approved the draft and that the plan includes an example RFP. A motion to approve the JDC food‑service plan passed by voice vote.
Separately, commissioners approved a one‑year standby generator service contract for the JDC with Southeast Services at $700 per year, a $50 increase from the prior year, to cover routine maintenance, oil changes and annual service visits.
A motion to bid replacement fixtures for six units at the 11‑bed facility was moved and seconded and approved by voice vote; Jones said budget constraints may delay replacement for some fixtures and asked to postpone a larger purchase until later in the year if needed.
