Luke Williams, director of parks and recreation, told the Board on Jan. 12 that the breezeway at Stewart Park pool has years of water damage and rot that could make the facility unsafe to operate this summer.

Williams reported receiving two contractor proposals (including a $25,000 estimate with a 15% demolition fee) and said two other contractors declined to bid because they could not determine the full scope without demolition. He asked whether the board wanted to pursue bids or have maintenance and trustees perform initial demolition so contractors can quote on visible conditions.

Board members agreed that removing the hazardous top portion first would allow more accurate bids; supervisors instructed staff to obtain quotes after targeted demo work, with the goal of ensuring safety for lifeguards and pool users and determining whether the pool can open for scheduled school events.

Williams also requested quotes for replacing a 10‑by‑8 garage door and entrance doors at the storage building; staff said the item will be considered in the capital improvement planning process and three written quotes will be obtained if the project is approved.
