Stacy Smith named mayor, Brandon Purcell named mayor pro tem; council approves manager merit bonus in closed session

Kingsburg9999999999999999999999999999999 The Kingsburg City Council reorganized at its Jan. 7 meeting, appointing Stacy Smith mayor and Brandon Purcell mayor pro tem. The appointments were made by nomination, closed without additional nominees and approved by voice vote.
Following the reorganization the city manager reported the city received the Government Finance Officers Association9s distinguished budget award for the fiscal year 2026 budget and thanked staff for preparing a readable document for residents.
After adjourning to closed session under state law, the city attorney reported that the council in closed session approved an 8% merit bonus for the city manager. The council returned and the mayor announced the closed-session outcome.
Incoming Mayor Stacy Smith thanked family, staff and colleagues in brief remarks. Councilmembers also noted upcoming committee meeting schedules and local board activity during their member reports before adjourning the meeting into closed session.
