Kingsburg99999999999999999999999999999999999 The Kingsburg City Council on Jan. 7 presented a proclamation and remarks honoring Police Chief Neil Davian as he retires after more than 46 years in law enforcement, including 11 years as Kingsburg police chief.
City officials highlighted Davian9s tenure: he joined the Kingsburg Police Department in January 2015, served 11 years as chief, and previously spent 34 years with the Fresno County Sheriff9s Office. The city manager said Davian helped grow the department from approximately 12 sworn officers to 25, led adoption of officer-worn body cameras and other Measure E-funded investments, and contributed to multi-year reductions in crime.
"This career is defined by service, leadership, and enduring commitment to excellence," the city manager said in introducing Davian. Davian declined to speak at length at first but later thanked staff, department members and council and told the audience, "We might be small, but we're mighty," praising his team and endorsing his successor, Chief Stevens.
Larry Salinas, deputy chief of staff for Congressman Jim Costa, presented a congressional certificate recognizing Davian's more than 40 years of public-safety service and told the council the congressman's office is providing $1,000,000 in community project funding toward Kingsburg's planned emergency operations center.
Councilmembers from across the dais offered personal tributes and thanked Davian for mentorship, departmental modernization and community engagement. The mayor read a formal proclamation noting reductions in crime and investments supported by Measure E, and the council presented the chief with a plaque and gifts before inviting officers and family forward for photographs.
Davian said he appreciated the opportunity to serve and credited department staff and management team members for their work and professionalism. The council moved from the recognition on to regular agenda business after the ceremony.
