City staff report amphitheater operator pick, Westgate funding prospects and maintenance updates

A board member described the interviews as "really well" and said the city hopes to have an answer by the end of the week. Another member (returning from vacation) reiterated progress and noted a permit issue affecting work timelines.
On a related development, staff said a bill pending in the legislature would appropriate additional dollars and shift funding into the community process program; the city plans to apply for that March/April funding round, with a reapplication planned for July if the earlier round is unsuccessful. Officials warned that funding timing could push construction into the following season if delayed to July.
Operational updates included vehicle maintenance (a rear leaf spring failure that will keep a vehicle out of service for weeks while repairs proceed), delivery timing for new truck equipment (expected June–July), contractor repairs to the west side of the firehouse to remove damaged metal and install a wainscot, and hose leak testing to verify connections and liner integrity.
Staff also reminded members of a city employee wellness blood draw scheduled for Thursday and a city retreat on the 29th and 30th in South Bend; the retreat was said to be open to the public.
