The Moses Lake City Council read and adopted a proclamation declaring Monday, Jan. 19, 2026, as Martin Luther King Jr. Day in Moses Lake and presented it to members of the city’s Martin Luther King Committee.
Miranda Bridges, representing the committee, thanked the council and described plans for a march beginning at Surf and Slide Water Park on Jan. 19 (march time announced at 4:30 p.m., with program activity at the Civic Center and auditorium at 5:30 p.m.). Bridges said the committee has partnered with the Moses Lake City Museum Arts Creative District and with the Moses Lake School District to host a coloring contest for kindergarten–third grade and an essay contest for fourth and fifth graders about whether Dr. King’s dream is alive today. The committee invited council members to speak and encouraged public participation.
Separately during the citizen comment period, students and mentors from CB Tech described their First Robotics Competition participation, achievements and needs. Salvador Ibarra and student teammates said the team seeks industry mentors, exposure and modest financial support (an approximate budget figure of $13,500 was discussed) to cover travel and lodging and to strengthen coding, CAD and mechanical work. Council members recommended local industry contacts and the Grant County Industrial Alliance as outreach leads.
The council closed the presentation portion of the meeting and moved on to appointments and consent items.
