Summary
The Dover Public School District board accepted Jan. 15 election results, swore in Deborah Acevedo and other winners, elected Scott Miller president and Kimberly Phillips vice president, and approved committee and vendor appointments (minor typos to be corrected in the minutes).
The Dover Public School District Board of Education accepted the certified results of the Jan. 2025 board election and swore in newly elected members at its Jan. 15 meeting.
The board announced vote totals for three three-year seats: Deborah Acevedo, 2,053 votes; Kimbella Phillips, 1,784 votes; and Helen Case, 1,569 votes. After a motion and second to accept the results, the board approved the election results by roll call.
Newly sworn-in Deborah Acevedo took the oath of office, reciting that she “do[es] solemnly swear or affirm” to support the U.S. and New Jersey constitutions and that she meets the qualifications set by law. The oath references statutory eligibility requirements under New Jersey statute 18A:12-1 and related provisions noted in the meeting.
The board then moved to its organizational business. A motion to nominate Scott Miller for board president was accepted and he was declared president “effective immediately.” Miller told the board, “I really appreciate all the confidence you have with me, and I will certainly put in 110%.” The board elected Kimberly Phillips as vice president under NJSA 18A:15-1; the president announced that officers will serve until the next organization meeting prescribed by law.
Members reviewed committee assignments, vendors and administrative items. The agenda noted additions to co-op partnerships, an added environmental contractor (RGB Environmental) to supplement RAM Grama Environmental for hazardous-chemical work, a change to Genesys Education Services for integrated software, and a change in insurance broker that the administration said will yield about $40,000 in savings. The board identified a typographical error in the 504 coordinator listing: the record will be corrected to show Mister Pandolfo as the other 504 coordinator and a TBD noted for the post-retirement replacement.
The board voted by roll call to approve the appointments and to record the corrections in the minutes. No formal dissent was recorded in the transcript. The board opened and closed a public-comment period and proceeded with remaining agenda business.
