School Committee approves two student travel requests — MASC and Disney music trip

The Duxbury School Committee unanimously approved two student travel requests during its meeting Monday: a Massachusetts Association of Student Councils (MASC) conference trip and a Disney music trip for Duxbury High School performers.
Stacy O'Brien Murphy, a student‑council adviser, presented the MASC trip for mid‑March in Hyannis, explaining 16 students and three advisers are registered and that the student council will cover transportation while families and student fundraising cover lodging and activity costs. Student Jackson Taylor highlighted the conference's workshops and history of Duxbury students serving on regional boards. "In the last seven times we've been there, five students from Duxbury have won... positions on the state council board," Jackson said.
Music Department Head Jill Norberg described the multi‑day Disney music trip: workshops with professional clinicians, student performances, instrument logistics, and a per‑student cost for room, meals and on‑site activities in the $450 range; the group uses a vendor (Carnegie) to coordinate travel and onsite logistics. The committee asked about registration, chaperones and fundraising; Norberg said fundraising and student‑activity funds are used where appropriate.
Both requests received motions and unanimous approval on voice votes. Committee members congratulated students and urged them to share their experiences with the district.
