Greg Motley and Micah Milburn Key were sworn in as Bourbon County commissioners at the boardusiness meeting on Jan. 12, 2026. The two took the statutory oath to support the constitutions of the United States and the state of Kansas and to faithfully discharge the duties of county commissioners.
The action followed a public reading of a resignation letter in which a sitting commissioner stated they were resigning from the 3rd District and that the resignation would be effective immediately prior to taking an oath as Bourbon County Commissioner for District 5 on Jan. 12, 2026. The resignation was submitted "to the governor of the state of Kansas" as read into the record.
The swearing-in restored the boardomposition following recent changes; Katie Bowers, identified at the meeting as chairperson of the county Republican Party, offered brief welcoming remarks. The board then moved on to organizational business including election of a chair and vice chair.
"I do solemnly swear that I will support the Constitution of the United States and the Constitution of the state of Kansas and faithfully discharge the duties of the office," the oath read in open session.
Procedural next steps noted at the meeting included distributing the official resignation letter and updating county records and state election/appointments offices as needed. No formal vote on the resignation itself is recorded in the minutes; the document was requested to be copied and filed.
