County engineering staff delivered a detailed presentation on FY2025 paving and special projects, summarizing last year’s work and outlining planned projects funded by rebuild money, MPO grants and county funds.
Staff reported that the previous year’s paid work totaled 32.4 miles and cited a paid-in cost figure of $4,839,084 for those projects. They listed individual rebuild projects (Caroline Road, County Road 75 South, County Line Road, Garrett Road, others), quantities of paving and shoulder work, and separate spending on county-run and MPO-funded projects. Staff said remaining rebuild and federal-exchange balances exist and described a target to expand paving to about 48 miles in future planning.
The presentation included smaller special projects (town and school work, demolition, pipe replacement, cleanup sites) and one grant-supported conservation project done with the Alabama Department of Natural Resources that staff said was fully reimbursed ($983,410). Staff requested the commission’s permission to post the full project list to the county website for transparency; a commissioner supported that request and praised Road & Bridge staff for their work.
The commission accepted the FY2025 rebuild annual report by voice vote and had no further formal action required for the presentation. Staff and commissioners emphasized the rising costs of paving and the importance of continued local funding to deliver planned miles.
