At the Colonial School District Board meeting on Jan. 13, student board member Mia delivered her January report, and Public Information Officer Nora Wilson reported on community donations and board recognition.
Mia began by wishing the district a Happy New Year and noted winter sports are underway, singling out the girls' basketball team for a strong season. She reminded students that the end of the marking period and first semester is Thursday the 15th, encouraged use of peer tutoring, and highlighted seniors' college acceptances and scholarships. Mia said William Penn will host a freshman family game night described in the record as '20 second' of this month and mentioned a prom fashion show called '20 first' with rehearsal dates to follow.
Mia also announced a health initiative: William Penn's allied health senior class will run 'Heart in the Game' at George Reed Middle School on Feb. 7 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., offering free heart screenings for Colonial students ages 8–23. The program was described as intended to identify students with underlying heart issues and help prevent risk.
Nora Wilson, the district's public information officer, told the board that Seeds of Greatness Bible Church provided holiday support to district families, supplying gifts to 380 students at Southern Elementary School and Gunning Bedford Middle School; Wilson said gifts were valued at $100 per designated student and families were offered dinner and stockings with personal-care items. Wilson thanked church leaders and volunteers and invited them forward for recognition.
Board members and staff paused for a recognition photo and brief informal remarks acknowledging the volunteers and the school's student leaders. The meeting record does not provide additional evaluation or financial accounting beyond the values and counts cited by Wilson and Mia; packet materials and event organizers would be the appropriate sources for further program details.
