During the Sept. 8 session the commission approved a package of routine and ceremonial items.
Under awards and presentations, commissioners previewed the Tunnel to Towers 'Never Forget' mobile exhibit scheduled Sept. 11–16 in Opelika; EMA staff said retired New York first responders will lead tours and more than 1,800 eighth-graders were scheduled to attend. The commission also recognized Lisa Ruffin and Irene Lane from human resources for completing the county-administration certificate program.
On the consent and new-business items, the commission approved the consent agenda (minutes and claims), including ratification of procurement-card transactions. The board approved an on-premise ABC license for America's Freedom Fuels (Lee Road 230), and approved two Dollar General off-premise retail beer and table-wine applications in District 4 by motion and voice vote.
Finance/staff also reported that the county met requirements for the Safety Incentive Discount Program (SIDP), which can yield up to $6,000 to the liability fund and up to $7,500 to the workers' compensation fund; commissioners authorized the chairman to sign the SIDP form.
No controversial objections were recorded on these items; votes were taken by voice where noted.
