Council hears water tower and booster-pump update; new reservoir raises pressure forecast by about 12.5 psi

Staff reported the city’s new water tower at 215 Basin Street is online but currently operating at similar pressure to existing tanks. The council heard that a booster pump station requires programming to integrate with the city’s telemetry system; staff said a consultant contract was signed Dec. 18 and programming is expected to be completed by the end of the week, with on-site work and troubleshooting to follow.
Staff noted the new reservoir’s overflow elevation is 29 feet higher than the two reservoirs that now serve that side of town and said that should translate to roughly 12.5 pounds per square inch of additional pressure for homes on that side of town (for example, a home at 45 psi would be closer to 57–58 psi after the change).
Council members asked about timing and system compatibility; staff said they expect to have the programming finished and to visit the site early the following week to complete installations and testing. No council action or funding decision was taken during the report.
The report also briefly noted a separate capital-planning item for 250 Basin Street: architecture and engineering work is budgeted and staff expects to issue a request for proposals in the coming months.
