Council received a series of community and operations updates during the workshop, including promotional videos and briefings from parks, IT and public-safety staff.
Staff introduced a GIS–fire collaboration dashboard developed with the IT/GIS team that allows staff to visualize incident density by ward, call type and time frame. An acting parks-and-facilities official and parks staff described ongoing renovations at Larry Sieminski Park (formerly referenced as West Dixie Park), saying the project uses the last of the parks bond money plus other bonds and grants and that the "value of the job is around $1,500,000." The planned amenities include a loop trail, playground, restroom and pavilion; some construction activities (utility installation and grading) were already underway.
Operations updates included HR’s announcement of an upcoming employee service-awards ceremony and the sanitation department’s reminder that holiday pickup schedules will shift during Christmas and New Year weeks. Public-works staff reported that the MOU with GDOT to take over Whitlock Avenue has been signed and returned, meaning the city can now proceed with city-led planning for that corridor.
Staff also promoted community programs such as the "Light Up the Holidays" interactive submission portal and highlighted recent events such as a winter wonderland and a Shop with a Cop event scheduled for the following morning.
No formal council action was required for these updates; staff asked the council to note progress and rely on staff to complete the projects.
