Lee County Commission authorizes ACCA intervention in SSUT case, renews lease and approves routine items

The commission also approved a set of routine and administrative items: the consent agenda (minutes from Nov. 10, three listings of claims and procurement card transactions), the reappointment of Andrew Bridal to the Beulah Utilities Board (District 4), and two ABC special-event license requests from Premium Pours for one-day events at the Stone and Ivy venue on Columbus Parkway (Dec. 11 and Dec. 14). Several motions were made and the body approved those items by voice vote.
County staff presented a proposed 10-year cable franchise renewal with RM Green (also known in the presentation as Beam) with an option to renew for an additional five years; the commission approved the agreement. Miss Leverett, who presented the franchise item, said the county will collect a 3% franchise fee on county agreements with the provider and noted cities may collect separate franchise fees for infrastructure within city limits.
Commissioners also agreed to match new state license fees for license types approved during the recent legislative session, and approved continuing the practice of canceling the second meeting in December.
A late agenda item — the Smith Station revenue office lease renewal — was added by unanimous consent. Staff explained the existing lease expires Nov. 30 and recommended exercising a three-year extension under the lease option. The commission authorized staff to submit a written request to the City of Smith Station and carried the motion by roll call (Cannon: yes; Morris: yes; Jury: yes; Langley: yes; LeGrand: yes).
