Board approves routine business: banks, newspaper of record, card designees, calendars and RFP authorizations

At its meeting the Norfolk Public Schools Board of Education approved multiple routine business items required for district operations.

Finance director Eric Wilson presented a resolution designating Bank First, Midwest Bank, Elkhorn Valley Bank and the Nebraska Liquid Asset Fund as official depositories for district funds; the board approved the resolution. The Norfolk Daily News was reaffirmed as the district’s newspaper of record for public notices and RFP advertisements. The board also approved the list of employees authorized to hold district credit cards and Voyager fleet cards.

The consent agenda — including minutes from Dec. 8 and multiple personnel contracts for hiring and resignations — was approved after several board members read conflict-of-interest disclosures and abstained on specific claims. The calendar committee’s proposed parent and staff calendars for 2026–27 were approved contingent upon negotiations.

The board approved second readings of policies including revised attendance at professional growth meetings (Policy 24-30) and Policy 83-20 (adoption/amendment/suspension of policies), and approved first readings for procurement plan (Policy 31-31) and internal controls (Policy 31-32). The Policy Committee announced plans to draft an AI policy for future consideration.

On facilities, the board granted permission to release RFP information for a middle-school cooling-tower replacement, junior-high auditorium repainting, a partial senior-high roof replacement (over the 400–500 hallways), and to procure one route bus and one mini bus. The board will evaluate bids and return recommendations for award.
