Norfolk Public Schools names three finalists; schedules public interviews Jan. 20

Superintendent McAllister told the board the finalists are Dr. Andrew Havelka (currently superintendent, Freeman Public Schools), Darren Toby (currently superintendent, Broken Bow Public Schools), and Eric Wilson (district director of business services at Norfolk Public Schools). The interviews will begin around 9:15 a.m. on Jan. 20; that session is scheduled to be live-streamed. The board plans to reconvene at 9 a.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 21 to select a candidate and to begin contract negotiations. The Jan. 21 meeting will be open to the public but not live-streamed to allow time to notify other candidates before a public announcement.
McAllister said principals, certified staff and a central administration interview team will rotate through candidate interviews and then submit strength assessments to the board for consideration. The board emphasized it will ask each candidate the same set of questions to keep the process fair and deliberative.
The board also reminded the public that the Jan. 20 session is an open meeting and that there will be time for public comment at the start of the session.
