Norfolk Public Schools board re-elects Brenda Carhartt, confirms officers and committee assignments

At its organizational meeting the Norfolk Public Schools Board of Education elected Brenda Carhartt president and Tom Stanton vice president, appointed Eric Wilson as board treasurer and confirmed committee rosters. Brenda Carhartt was elected president of the Norfolk Public Schools Board of Education for a one-year term after nominations and a roll-call vote that carried 6–0. Tom Stanton was chosen as vice president in the same session.
The board followed custom in appointing the district director of business services, Eric Wilson, as the 2026 board treasurer. The district superintendent was confirmed to serve as board secretary for the coming year, and Callan Collins was named recording secretary. Perry Law Firm was approved to continue as the district's primary legal counsel on an as‑needed basis.
Board members reviewed and approved committee assignments for negotiations, curriculum, finance and facilities, policy, government relations, superintendent evaluation, activities, awards, foundation and wellness. Patty Gubels told the board the government relations committee will draft ‘‘belief statements’’ to guide rapid advocacy during short legislative sessions; the draft will be returned to the full board for formal approval.
All motions recorded during the reorganization passed unanimously (6–0). The agenda followed typical first‑meeting business including distribution of the board code of ethics and statutory notices required under the Open Meetings Act.
The board’s reorganization sets officer roles and committee membership ahead of the superintendent search process and a year of planned policy reviews and facilities work.
