West Dixie Park nearing completion; Burrus Park pipe could require SPLOST funds

Parks staff (Speaker 9) briefed the committee that West Dixie Park construction is progressing and that most flat work is roughly 80% complete. Work on undergrounding electrical for lighting and irrigation was underway; Speaker 9 said the playground is scheduled for the week of Dec. 15 and the restroom and pavilion deliveries will follow. "So we should be complete with the entire project by the January," Speaker 9 said, contingent on delivery schedules.
Speaker 9 told members the parks account has an uncommitted balance of about $75,629 but noted a significant pipe at Burrus Park may need replacement, potentially costing up to $250,000. He said some funding is available in bond and general-fund appropriations and that SPLOST funds might be needed to complete the work if other sources are insufficient. Other park projects mentioned included Atherton Square design work and various smaller park commitments.
Committee members asked for updates on the schedule and praised the visible progress; staff confirmed tree planting with community volunteers and continued coordination with contractors. No final appropriation vote occurred at the meeting; members were asked to expect project updates in coming months.
