Marietta approves multiple grant applications; council discloses potential Roswell Road conflict

Public Works staff asked council permission to submit several grant applications to help fund transportation and corridor projects. The requested applications included construction funds for the Rottenwood Creek Trail, preliminary-engineering funds for North Marietta Parkway streetscape, and two competing grant applications (expecting at most one award) for a Roswell Road corridor study.
Staff listed requested amounts and local-match expectations during the presentation and asked for council approval to apply. During discussion, a council member disclosed that members of their family own the East Meredith Shopping Center along Roswell Road and said they would abstain on the Roswell Road-related item until they had more information. The council approved the motion to apply for the grants; the action was moved, seconded and approved by voice vote.
Staff also reviewed SPLOST prioritization and said Cobb County has tentatively scheduled a joint public informational meeting for Marietta projects on March 5 at the Civic Center; staff reminded the council final project lists must be settled by February.
