Marietta parks staff told the Finance Committee that the parks division is the recipient of a Land and Water Conservation Fund grant and requested the city accept a partial reimbursement now to cover ongoing construction at Larry Sieminski Park. "So the total amount that they're asking to receive is $220,507.67," the presenter said during the meeting.
Staff said the grant is a matched program with a maximum $500,000 match and that the requested $220,507.67 is the first portion; the remainder would be received later when construction advances. The committee voted to amend the FY2026 parks bond to receive the funds; the motion was moved, seconded and passed on a 3-0 vote.
Parks staff provided a construction update indicating major site work — a poured loop trail, pad for the pavilion and grading for the playground — and told council members that restroom and pavilion deliveries were delayed by vendor licensing and drawing approvals. Staff said the contractor will pause over the Christmas/New Year period and that landscaping, sod and playground installation are scheduled for early January, with remaining restroom and pavilion elements expected in March.
The action was recorded as a budget amendment to accept grant reimbursement; no immediate additional borrowing or new match authorization was indicated at the meeting.
