The Sweetwater City Council cleared several routine agenda items on Jan. 13, approving resolutions, ordinances and appointments by voice vote.
Key outcomes: the council designated the Sweetwater Reporter as the official city newspaper for required legal publications through Dec. 31, 2026; adopted an ordinance ordering a municipal election on May 2, 2026 to fill two council seats (Precincts 2 and 4); ratified the city manager's reappointment of Richard Ferguson to the Civil Service Commission (term end stated as Jan. 26); and approved a memorandum of understanding with the Abilene RC Society to host an RC jet rally at the Sweetwater Municipal Airfield Sept. 30–Oct. 3, 2026.
Council also approved an ordinance establishing rules and regulations for operation and use of the Lake Sweetwater RV Park, providing for registration, standards, enforcement and penalties; staff said event coordination will be handled through the city's service center with advance notice.
Where votes were recorded as voice votes, all were approved with those present saying “aye.” No roll‑call tallies or formal recorded dissent were made during these items at the meeting.
What happens next: ordinances and resolutions will be filed in the official minutes and implementation handled by the appropriate departments (elections staff, legal, parks and recreation).
