SAINT HELENA, Calif. — The city’s community services staff and volunteer planning committee presented a yearlong schedule of events on Jan. 13 to mark Saint Helena’s 150th anniversary, including a March 24 civic dedication and a large community block party in September.
Ashley Sylvester, interim director of community services, introduced the program and emphasized community partnerships with the historical society, public library and the chamber of commerce. Committee chairs Caroline Palmisano and Jeanne Wolf detailed a fundraising kickoff (tickets $100) at Native Sons Hall and said proceeds are intended to underwrite a free September block party with music, vendors and family activities.
Council members discussed where to place a permanent commemorative plaque (Lyman Park or City Hall) and whether to host a parade on Saturday, Sept. 5, or tag onto the school homecoming parade on Friday, Sept. 25. Staff will work with organizers and the chamber and return with logistical recommendations and parade‑date guidance to ensure internal city capacity and Caltrans coordination for any Main Street closures.
What’s next: Staff will refine parade logistics and plaque placement options and bring recommendations to council at a future meeting; volunteers invited city residents to contact chairs and to sign up to support events.
